Moonraker & X-Country News June 24, 2010

GCC had its second XC group ride last night (Wednesday, June 23) and the turnout was a pleasant surprise with over 20 riders in attendance. The groups then rode Bear Claw, Arrowhead, Cedar Camp, and out on the newest trail (as yet, unnamed). In the future, we would like to offer an improved group experience for the different ability levels and we will be splitting into smaller groups of differing abilities. Those of you new to the club or the Moonrakers are encouraged to come out and meet other riders and get to know the trails.

Our next group ride will be held on Wednesday, June 30, at 6:00 PM. and will actually consist of two rides. Those interested in riding the Moonrakers will meet at the Sander Lake trailhead. Remember if you are a beginner please do not feel intimidated as we will split into different ability groups. If you are going to head up to Sander Lake, please drive slowly to prevent damage to the road and dust problems. The dirt road is a private one and the owners have graciously allowed us to use it. We do not want to lose access to this area!

Anyone interested in riding the Campbell Road trail will meet at the junction of Campbell and Mitchell roads at 6:00pm or meet by 5:30 at Derailed and we can see if some carpooling can be organized. This trail is rated as intermediate to advanced with a riding time of 1.5 hours. Further information regarding this trail can be obtained by phoning Rick at 250 348-2533.

Our newest trail has now been cut and still needs further work but it can be ridden. The remaining work will be done next week and we plan to have a ‘special’ group ride next Saturday, July 3. We will meet at Cedar Lake at noon and you can meet the trail crew and then ride the new trail as an out and back. We will also talk about the pump track and skill park (and be looking for volunteers) planned for Sander Lake. Hot dogs and cold drinks to follow.
