Moonraker Update
June 5, 2010

We now have our trail crew in place and working. Andy, Evan, and Paul have begun construction of our first trail which will run from the Tower Road to the north end of Arrowhead between Arrowhead and 2%. If you know or see these guys, thank them, because they have put in a solid first week.

Once this trail is finished we will begin construction of the trail linking the Moonrakers to Golden. This will be our longest trail, at just under 7 km, and it will provide you with the opportunity to leave your vehicle at home, avoid the usual highway access and still have a great ride.

GCC has just learned that it has been given a grant totaling $4650.00 from the Mountain Equipment Coop. We applied for this grant so that we could build a skill development area and a pump track at the Sander Lake trail head. This funding will provide us with the materials needed to complete this project. We expect to begin construction early in July and volunteers will be both needed and appreciated. More details about this project will be posted later in June.

Our new trail signage is now being placed. The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and the Arts has provided us with the signs and the cedar posts. We hope that once the Initial Attack crew gets back from Quebec they will be able to finish the more remote locations!

Finally, Cedar Lake campground (at the north end of the Moonrakers) is celebrating its official opening on June 9 from 3:30pm to 6:30pm. GCC will also be hosting its first XC group ride on that same night. We will be meeting at Derailed at 18:00 (6PM).
